For many college students Christian faith takes on new dimensions. Faith that used to be connected with parents, family, and friends that was grounded in meaningful service projects and worship times feels different as college life, studies, and pressures grow. Colossians 2:6-7 offers some helpful guidance to navigate the changes from high school and home life to college life. These verses are where I get the name, “Rooted” for this blog. Take a look at these verses:
As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord:
continue to live your lives in him,
rooted and built up in him, established in the faith just as you were taught,
abounding in thanksgiving.
Even though your college journey brings some changes there is continuity with your past. “Continue to live your lives in him.” This continuing happens as we are rooted and built up in Jesus Christ. You may have questions, doubts, joys and struggles, new ideas and perspectives, but being “rooted in Christ,” built up and established in the faith that has been passed down through many generations, cultures, and manifestations through the years can ground our life a solid place, in Jesus Christ, which results in a heart attitude and expression of thanksgiving. In times of change and newness, it good to know we are rooted in deep, rich soil and that we can grow taking in the nutrients of that soil in which we are planted.
