Never in history have there been more things to distract us from what really matters. It is not simply a black and white issue, technology and its fruit has brought good and bad. Our obsessions with technology, music, sports, video, shopping, and on and on, show however, that we often lose track of why we are here and what we are created for. Often, those questions never enters our minds, we simply live in all our obsessions and then wonder why we are drained emotionally, bored, or tired. Ephesians 5:15-17 says,
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
“Careful,” “wise,” “thoughtful,” are words that can guide our thought life, our behavior, and our use of time. Sometimes, in the midst of my work, my play, and my sitting at the feet of false gods, I need to be reminded, “God made birds to tweet, but he created me for much more.”
